The Progressive Leasing calculator will estimate the total payment costs to give you an idea before you continue with a contract.
With many offline merchants and online stores accepting Progressive Leasing, there are a few lease service providers with such a wide coverage.
While it is popular for being a buy now pay later with no hard credit check required before you can access its financing, understanding the terms and costs involved with the contract could help you avoid paying more than expected.

Lease-to-Own
Tip: If you have not used Progressive Leasing for financing yet, it is primarily a lease-to-own payment service available at POS channels and checkout gateways allowing you to purchase items and spread payments for up to 12 months. If you see through the entire lease contract, you will pay more than double the price of the product but there is a lifeline with its 90-day early purchase option that will let you avoid paying interest (or not much depending on your state).
If you have seen a Rent-A-Center building or that of Aaron’s or any of those popular brands providing lease-to-own for furniture, appliances, electronics, and related products at their physical locations then, take Progressive Leasing as one of them but with no building.
It is a payment tool that allows merchants to provide lease-to-own options to their customers, especially those who may be ineligible for prime financing due to their poor credit scores.
You can handle the application yourself online or through a support staff when using it at a physical location that accepts it as a means of payment.
When your application is being prepared, you will be presented with a contract with very important information detailing the cost if you continue with the process.
Usually, the total cost of the lease is very high, doubling the price of the product for its 12-month length but there is a 90-day early payoff which allows you to buy out the contract and save more than 100% on rental costs.

How the Progressive Leasing Calculator Works
Â
The above Progressive Leasing estimator is divided into two parts:
Data Collection
This part is where you are to enter the details regarding your purchases:
- Cash Price: you should enter the price of the product in this field. There is a minimum of $150 and a maximum of $4,000 in value allowed as entry to tally with Progressive Leasing’s requirement
- Tax: depending on your location based on the address you will provide to Progressive Leasing, a sales tax will be added to your lease contract. This varies and it will be added to your periodic repayment. You can set it between 1 – 5 to have an estimate
- Other fees: you may or may not be charged other fees but if there is one added to your contract, you simply need to enter that. Progressive Leasing does not usually charge a processing fee and you may leave the field blank
- The period field is simply the total length of the lease up to a maximum of 12 months
Â
The Estimator:
This part simply calculates an estimate of the cost based on your entry in part one:
- 90-Day Early Purchase (CA): if you live in CA (depending on your address), Progressive Leasing offers same-as-cash benefits for the first 90 days if you can pay off your lease. This means that you will pay exactly the price as stated by the merchant with no extra using this option within the first three months
- 90-Day (Non-CA): if your address is outside of California, you are ineligible for the same-as-cash benefit. However, you still enjoy far less cost if you use the option instead of seeing through the contract for 12 months
- Early Purchase: this option is if your lease extends beyond 90 days. Depending on the period of your lease, the value will vary and it increases the more you delay the buyout. If you use this, the item will become yours, and you will stop paying further
- Cost Of Lease: this is the cost of you holding onto the product for 12 months (you can look at it as the amount you will pay to rent it)
- Monthly Payment: this is the amount you are expected to pay every month until the end of the 12 months
- Cost Of Ownership (12-Month): this value shows how much you are expected to pay in total through the contract before the item becomes yours (note, this data on the Progressive Leasing calculator result is not needed if you use any of the early purchase options)

The Nitty-gritty of Progressive Leasing
To understand this Progressive Leasing calculator better, knowing how its service works is important, from purchase point down to repayments.
Study the image below to have a pictorial view of what happens when you utilize Progressive Leasing. While this depicts the buy now pay later in-store experience, the flow is similar when you are making payments online.
In the above image, there are four actors including:
- Store: of course, required as this is where the whole process starts
- You: when you visit a store for shopping, this payment option is usually presented to you and you can either accept it or continue to use it for product financing
- Store Attendant: usually in a store, there is someone assigned to process financing requests and you will relate with that staff to handle yours
- Progressive: your financing option
Here is how this will work when you finally accept to use Progressive Leasing to checkout:
- The attendant will take your records including the price of the product you want to buy, social security number, address, contact number, and some other details through a tablet or PC
- These details are then submitted to Progressive Leasing to determine your eligibility. Note that to validate some details, an OTP will be sent to your cell phone hence, keep it active
- If your request is accepted, you will be presented with a cost summary, there is usually a default Progressive Leasing calculator which will show a breakdown of how much it will cost you to continue with the lease-to-own option
- If you are fine with the summary shown by the default Progressive Leasing calculator, the store attendant will then continue the process
- Your payment details are required which will be connected to charge the initial payment. The amount will vary but at most stores, it is $59
- Once the first payment is successful, your lease has started and you can get the product
There is one interesting thing about this:
- While you will be given the item, it is not yours but that of Progressive Leasing
- What happened is that the product was sold to Progressive Leasing and it has been rented out to you
- In a case of default, they have the right to repossess their property from you
- However, they offer the 90-day early payoff to enable you to own it as early as possible so you do not have to pay so much on rental costs.
- You probably understand the Cost of Lease given in the Progressive Leasing calculator now. That is the amount you pay for keeping their property
- To get the final cost of the product ownership, the Cash Price (original item’s price) is added to the Cost of the Lease which will then be what you need to pay for it to become yours if you see through the contract up to 12 months
This option is usually expensive due to the rental fees hence, only use it as an alternative if you are not lucky to get financing through other buy now pay later options.
However, there is the early purchase and you should utilize that in order not to end up paying so much if you eventually go with using Progressive Leasing for your purchases.
